Born as a Deaf child to Deaf parents, Hitomi worked at corporations such as NEC Software, Ltd (predecessor of NEC Sollution Innovators, Ltd.) and later at Meisei Gakuen School for the Deaf as head of the Sign Language department and teacher at the elementary school. Currently she is director of and an instructor at NPO Japanese Sign Language Teachers Center and head of Meisei Gakuen kindergarten. She is also an anchorperson for public television NHK's Sign Language News.

"My hobby is standup paddle boarding. I also do core-strengthening workouts."
